The Louis Riel School Division Continuing Education offered a course “Raise Your Own Butterflies” on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 pm on June 5, 12, and 19, 2018 for $132.

Course Description: Learn how to raise butterflies from egg to adult. Gain confidence to start you own vivarium and see firsthand the metamorphosis from caterpillar to chrysalis to adult butterfly. This is a wonderful activity to share with children of all ages, especially the ceremony of releasing the adults near your butterfly garden. You will leave the course with a few live caterpillars of Painted Lady butterflies and adequate food and shelter including perches for the chrysalis to hang onto while it changes its wardrobe. Learn how to rear butterflies of all types including the impressive Monarch Butterflies. Materials fee includes 3 caterpillars/student, 1 terrarium, food and apparatus. Instructor: Fern Saurette

I signed up for this course and thoroughly loved it! I was a bit disappointed when my 3 live Painted Lady caterpillars did not survive. Most of the student’s caterpillars did not survive either. I was thrilled when Fernand provided me with a Monarch egg on a last class. I was hooked on raising and saving Monarch butterflies.
